Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-09-13
This Privacy Policy explains how The Handyman SF ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use thehandymansflive.com (the "Site"), send us a service request, or call or text our business number, (415) 449-8213. The HandymanNow app and the HandymanNow signup pages on this Site have their own HandymanNow Privacy Policy.
If you have questions, email sfthehandyman@gmail.com or call or text (415) 449-8213.
1. What we do
We connect homeowners in the San Francisco Bay Area with local, independent handymen. When you describe a job, we pass your request to handymen who work in your area so they can contact you about it. We do not perform the work ourselves, and the handymen are not our employees.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Contact details: your name, mobile phone number and, if you provide it, your email address.
- Job details: the kind of work, a description, when you need it, the street address, city and ZIP code of the property, and any photos you attach.
- Messages and calls: what you write when you text our number, what you say when you call (including voicemail, which we transcribe), and messages you send us through email or neighborhood sites such as Nextdoor.
- Your consent: the consent wording you agreed to, and when.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and connection information: your IP address, which we store only as a one-way scrambled value used to stop spam and abuse, your browser type, and the page you sent a request from.
- Cookies and similar technologies: the Site and its hosting provider use cookies that are needed for the Site to work and to measure traffic in aggregate. You can block cookies in your browser; the request form works without them.
We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
3. How we use information
- To pass your request to local handymen and help them contact you about it.
- To call or text you about your request, including with automated tools and an automated assistant that can ask follow-up questions or return a call you asked for.
- To check that a request is a genuine request for work, using automated screening, and to prevent spam, fraud and abuse.
- To follow up about whether you still need help and how the job went.
- To operate, secure and improve the Site and our service, and to comply with the law.
4. How we share information
- With handymen. Your job details and contact details are shared with local independent handymen so they can contact you. Handymen pay us to receive a request, and a request may be shared with up to three handymen. Under California law this may be a "sale" of personal information; see Section 7.
- With service providers who process information for us under contract: database and hosting (Supabase, Hostinger), calls and text messages (Twilio), email delivery (Resend), automated text screening and voicemail transcription (OpenAI), and payment processing for handymen (Stripe).
- For legal reasons: to comply with law or legal process, to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or us, and in connection with a sale or reorganization of our business.
We do not sell or share your text-message opt-in consent with third parties for their own marketing.
5. How long we keep information
We keep a request and the messages about it for as long as we need them to provide the service, keep business and tax records, resolve disputes and prevent abuse. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (Section 7).
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted connections and restricted access. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
7. Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, gives you these rights:
- Right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, sell or share, and to get a copy.
- Right to delete personal information we collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.
- Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
- Right not to be discriminated against for using any of these rights.
7.1 Categories of personal information
In the last 12 months we have collected: identifiers (name, phone number, email address, IP address); customer records (property address, job details); commercial information (the services you asked about); internet activity (the page you used); approximate location (the city and ZIP code of your property); and audio and electronic information (voicemails and messages). We collected them from you, your devices, and the sites you contacted us through, for the purposes in Section 3.
We have sold identifiers, customer records, commercial information and approximate location to independent handymen, as described in Section 4. We have disclosed each category to the service providers in Section 4 for business purposes. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
7.2 Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
To opt out, email sfthehandyman@gmail.com with the subject "Do Not Sell", or text or call (415) 449-8213 and say "Do not sell my information". We will stop passing your information to additional handymen. A handyman who already received your request before you opted out may still contact you about it. We also treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as an opt-out request for that browser.
7.3 How to make a request
Email sfthehandyman@gmail.com or call or text (415) 449-8213. We will confirm your request by matching the phone number or email address you used with us, and respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof that you gave the agent permission.
8. Text messages
Texts from our number are covered by our Text Message Terms. Reply STOP at any time to stop texts, or HELP for help.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will change the effective date above, and material changes will be posted on this page.
