How the app works
Create your account
Confirm your email, add your phone and home address. The same login opens the app.
Describe the job
A sentence and a few photos tell a handyman what they are walking into.
Follow your handyman
See when they accept, message them, and watch them on the map on the way.
Confirm and rate
Mark the work done when you are happy, and leave a rating for the next neighbor.
How the app fits Bay Area houses
Most repairs around the bay come with a detail that is awkward to explain on a call: a paint-sealed sash, a slab you must not drill, a gate at the bottom of a stair lane. The app lets you show it.
Pictures of the problem
A photo of a Victorian window sealed shut by paint, or an Eichler slider that has jumped its track, explains more than a paragraph. Add photos when you describe the job, so the handyman who takes the request can see what they are walking into and what tools or parts it might need.
Access notes in writing
Stairs up a Marin hillside, a code for a Peninsula gate, an elevator booking in a San Francisco condo tower: send them in the app's messages instead of trying to remember them on a call. The notes stay with the job, and the handyman can look back at them before arriving.
Watching the arrival
When the status changes to on the way, the handyman shows up on your map. That helps where streets wind through the East Bay hills or parking takes a few passes, because you can be at the door or the gate at the right moment instead of guessing.
Knowing who is coming
Handyman profiles are reviewed before anyone can take jobs in the app, and you can read a handyman's profile and reviews. After the work, you confirm the job is done and rate the handyman, which gives the next homeowner something to read too.
Why use HandymanNow
No payment inside the app
Using the app costs homeowners nothing, and there is no payment step in it. You agree the price with the handyman directly, the same way you would with anyone you called yourself.
Every stage in view
Status updates follow the job from accepted to on the way, arrived, working and done, so you are not texting to ask where things stand.
Matched by where you are
When you send a request, the app asks for your location so it can match handymen near you, whether the house is in the fog belt, the hills or a valley suburb.
HandymanNow, in your pocket
One place for the request, the conversation and the visit, from the first photo to the rating.
- Describe the job and add photos
- See the handyman's profile and reviews
- Message in the app, no numbers to swap
- Follow them on the map while they drive over

Questions homeowners ask
Where around the bay can I use it?
HandymanNow is meant for homes across San Francisco, the Peninsula, the East Bay, the South Bay and Marin. It asks for your location at the moment you send a request, and uses it to match handymen near you rather than someone on the far side of the bay.
When can I get the app?
The Android app is rolling out to everyone soon, and an iPhone version is coming soon. You can create your account on this page now, and the same login will open the app. Until then, send a request from any city page's form, or call or text (415) 449-8213.
Does it cost anything?
No. HandymanNow is free for homeowners, and the app has no payment step. Price is something you and the handyman agree between yourselves before the work starts, and you pay them directly in whatever way the two of you arrange.
Who are the handymen in the app?
Local independent handymen, not staff of HandymanNow or The Handyman SF. Each profile is reviewed before that handyman can take jobs in the app, and you can open a handyman's profile and reviews to see their trades, experience and what other homeowners said.
What happens once the work is finished?
The status moves to done, and you confirm in the app that the work is complete. Then you can rate the handyman. If something still needs attention, use the messages to sort it out with them before you confirm.
