Safety Policy
Last updated: 2026-08-05
HandymanNow (the "App"), operated by HandymanNow, connects people who will often meet in person, frequently at a customer's home. This policy explains what we do to support safety, and what to do if something goes wrong. It's part of the Terms of Service.
1. Handyman Approval
Before a handyman can go online and accept jobs, their application is reviewed and approved. Only approved handymen appear as available to customers.
2. Location Privacy Before You've Worked Together
Before you have any relationship with a specific handyman, their position shown to you on the customer map is intentionally approximate, not their exact live location — this exists specifically so that browsing the map cannot be used to track a real person's exact whereabouts before any job connects you. Once a job is accepted, both parties can see each other's real, live location for the duration of that job only, and that visibility ends once the job is complete.
3. In-App Communication
Use in-app chat and calling for job-related communication. It creates a record we can refer to if a report or dispute needs investigating.
4. If You Feel Unsafe
If you ever feel unsafe during a job, in-person interaction, or communication with another user:
- Trust your judgment. You can leave a situation or end an interaction at any time.
- If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. HandymanNow does not monitor jobs in real time and cannot dispatch emergency help.
- After the fact (or if not urgent), use Report an Issue → "Safety concern" to tell us what happened, and Block to stop further messages from that person.
5. Reporting
- Report a Problem (on a specific job) is for job-quality issues — work not done properly, damage, billing questions.
- Report an Issue (from Profile/Help & Support, or from a job's chat) is for behavior, safety concerns, or app problems, and can name the specific person involved.
We review reports and may warn, restrict, suspend, or remove an account based on what we find. We do not automatically ban an account from a single report.
6. Verification Limits
Handyman approval may include reviewing submitted licensing/insurance documentation where applicable, but HandymanNow does not perform criminal background checks at this time, and approval is not a guarantee of a handyman's conduct, skill, or legal authorization to perform a given trade. See the Independent Handyman Agreement.
