The housing built since 2008 around the Great Mall and the Milpitas BART station is new construction, which usually means drywall over studs and, in multi-unit buildings, walls shared with a neighbor. Milpitas incorporated in January 1954, bringing the new Ford plant inside city limits. The plant closed in the early 1980s and became the Great Mall, which opened in 1994. Mounting, assembly, shelving and fixture swaps inside the unit are usually the owner's own business.
