Trees taller than the roofline also have to be kept pruned.
Is West Berkeley older than the rest of the city?
Yes. Ocean View, near the bay, was the first settlement, with a stage stop and inn on what is now San Pablo Avenue in the 1850s. It merged with the university community to incorporate as the Town of Berkeley in 1878, which is why West Berkeley has some of the city's earliest houses.
Does the Hayward Fault affect houses away from the stadium?
The fault runs along the base of the hills through Berkeley, and its creep offsets curbs and walls along the trace, not just at Memorial Stadium. Houses near it may develop sticking doors and cracks over time. Cosmetic fixes are handyman work; growing foundation cracks need a licensed contractor.
